This wonderful southern hunting pouch and powder horn was found in Rockbridge County, Virginia. It has two compartments and a side shoulder strap with wonderful forged buckle. The powder horn is 14” around the curve. The pine butt plug and the wide portion of the powder horn are engraved with the hex symbols. The plug is fastened to the horn with hand forged / filed screws.

The 18th-century “hex symbol” served as cultural folk decoration brought over by German immigrants. Using the symbol suggests they were magical charms to ward off witches and evil.

This beautiful cow hide hunting pouch has an extra wide shoulder strap. The hunting pouch is 8 1/2’ x 9” and has a 6 3/4″” applied flap that has been meticulously adorned with a scraped hand-sewn leather border. The face of the bag retains it original hair.
