Early German Jaeger Rifle
Early German Jaeger Rifle
Very fine example of an early walnut stocked German flintlock rifle with bold relief carving. It has an original sliding wood patch box cover and a large bore. There is high relief carving on the cheek side, around the tang, the trigger guard and rear ramrod pipe. The serpentine side plate is sculptured with leaf like terminations. The rifle barrel touch hole is original however the banana shaped flintlock is a second-generation lock. This brass mounted jaeger retains its original pleasing patina and is decorated with lavish moldings with a forward sling swivel and a sling button behind the trigger guard. 43” overall with a 28” barrel. This jaeger would be a great addition to any collection.
