Flintlock Double Barrel Pistol ca 1740

Beautiful European relief carved flintlock double barrel pistol made in the second quarter of the 18th century. This early flintlock was the type treasured in colonial times to double the owners protection on the frontier. The hardware is forged and filed iron and is engraved. The forged iron barrels are beautifully made.  The lock plates are original to the pistol however they have been nicely reconverted. The wood appears to be European walnut. It has a beautiful forged iron grip cap with spurred pommels. The hardware is exceptional.  The relief carving around the tag is outstanding. Double barrel flintlock pistols in this condition are very hard to find.  Beautiful early 18th century flintlock pistol.   14 1/2″ overall  —  8″ barrel
