Flintlock Holster Pistol ca 1740
Beautiful French relief carved flintlock holster pistol made in the second quarter of the 18th century. This early flintlock was the type treasured by soldiers in America during the French and Indians War and the Rev War. The hardware is forged and filed iron and is engraved. The forged iron barrel is beautifully filed with facets. The lock plate is engraved with the French gunmaker’s name Royet. The wood appears to be French walnut. It has a beautiful forged iron grip cap with spurred pommels. The hardware is exceptional. The relief carving around the tag is outstanding. The flintlock is expertly reconverted and two inches of the fore stock has been professionally replaced. These ornate and early 18th century pistols in great condition are very hard to find. Beautiful F and I War – Rev War flintlock pistol. 13 1/2″ overall — 7 1/2″ barrel
