Native American Clay Bowl

Pre-18th century Mississippi Culture clay Native American bowl. The bowl has applied knobs and was probably a ceremonial pot. This bowl was originally collected by Clarence Madden who was affiliated with the Native American Museum in Saltville, VA. This bowl was found in a cave along the New River which is the second oldest river in the world. I believe the top rim was once colored with a red pigment. The body of the bowl has wonderful color and condition with no cracks or repairs. 4 1/8” across – 2 ½” tall. The larger pot listed and this pot have been together since they were found in the early 20th century.
