$4,200.00

American Militia Bi-come Hat with Original Flume

Very rare War of 1812 Bi-come (Chapeau de Bras) hat with original flume. This style hat was very popular with the American State Militias and Volunteers during the War of 1812. This hat comes with the original War of 1812 Land Grant from John C Carter Family in Albemarle County, VA

Rare to fine a War of 1812 Bi-come hat and even rarer to find one with the original flume. The hat is made of beaver felt with a cloth trim and decorated with vertical embroidery trim on both sides with a 1st Regiment badge.

The condition of the hat is very good considering it age. There is some impairment to the material inside the hat and minor aging to the material on the exterior fringes as shown. Considering it’s age this rare bi-come hat and flume are wonderful. (For a full description of a bi-come hat, see “Soldiers in America” – Don Troiani, page 89)
