18th Century Etched Glass Decanter
18th Century Etched Glass Decanter (ca. 1780). This beautiful decanter was hand-blown by a Dutch glass-blower / artist in the fourth quarter of the 18th century. The body of the decanter is etched glass with grape pattern against a clear background. Wonderful condition (missing stopper). 7” tall x 5” wide
Provenance: This etched decanter was collected by Earl Chilton, Bowling Green, Virginia, who obtained it from his uncle James Chilton, Chatham. James Chilton was given this piece of stone ware in the 1950s while performing construction at Kenmore, the home George Washington’s mother, Mary Ball Washington (1200 Charles Street, Fredericksburg, Virginia). He was told that it belonged to Mary Ball and Augustine Washington. This wonderful piece of glassware has been in Gordon Barlow’s collection since 1976, when he purchased it from Earl Chilton.
