Carved American Eagle
Wonderful early patriotic eagle (ca late 18th or early 19th century) carved from American walnut, by an American craftsman, to illustrate the love of our counties’ freedom. It was carved during a time when our forefathers had just secured our nations freedom.
The American Eagle was adopted by the Continental Congress on June 20, 1782 as the national symbol of American independence, desire for peace, and strength.
Early carvings and paintings from the late 18th and early 19th centuries exhibit the eagle griping an olive branch ‘signifying a desire for peace’ and a bundle of arrows signifying ‘readiness for war’. The one-piece neck and head are carved and applied. It has a rear support for standing display.
The carving is 22” wide and 15” tall and exhibits exceptional craftsmanship. Very desirable Americana!
