Beautiful Revolutionary War Dutch musket with brass hardware including brass barrel bands.
The Virginia Committee of Safety smuggled Dutch muskets through the neutral Dutch Caribbean Island of St Eustatius using schooners such as the ‘Liberty’. Once the arms reach Virginia the Committee of Safety distributed them to the Virginia County Militia.
These well-made muskets were a favorite of the Virginia Revolutionary War Militia because of their maker’s meticulously attention to detail.
This musket was carried by Captain William Dix of Pittsylvania County, Virginia while serving in the Revolutionary War in the Southern Campaign and at the Siege of Yorktown.
