Excavated Revolutionary War Canteen Top
An excavated top from an original issue continental army rare tin canteen dug at Fort Haldimand. This fort was located on the western promontory of Carleton Island in Cape Vincent, Jefferson County, New York. This fort was a major refuge camp for upwards of 1,000 people, including British and Hessian soldiers, Indigenous allies, and displaced Loyalists fleeing persecution in the Mohawk Valley. Continental army prisoners were held there.
