Revolutionary War Epaulette
Revolutionary War Epaulette
Superb hand-sewn silver epaulette with bullion fringes attached to colored homespun material. The underside is white homespun material with padding. Rare Revolutionary War uniform accessory. In June, 1780, General Washington issues an order to have field officers better identify themselves by rank. Sergeants wore one epaulette on the right shoulder and Lieutenants wore one epaulette on the left shoulder and higher-ranking officers wore two gold epaulettes, one on each shoulder. An American-made epaulette is very difficult to find.
