Revolutionary War Flintlock Pistol (Sterling)
Revolutionary War Flintlock Pistol carried at the Battles of Lexington and Concord
Early Flintlock Horse Pistol made in the 1st half 18th Century. This was a pistol made for use on the American Frontier (probably of Scottish origin). It is quite long at 18-1/2 inches with a 13-1/2 inches part-octagonal, part-round barrel (the bore is approximately 60 caliber). It has a full-length stock with ornate brass hardware. There are lovely shaped and faceted finials on the ramrods. The forged iron lock plate and brass side plate are profusely engraved with scroll. The ramrod is tipped and the cap on the muzzle end of the stock are matched with horn.
According to the Sterling Family history Hugh Sterling, Sr carried this very fine flintlock pistol in the F&I War and Hugh Sterling, Jr carried it in the Revolutionary War at the Battles of Lexington and Concord April 19, 1775.
