Revolutionary War Powder Horn
Revolutionary War Powder Horn
Militia powder horn carried by Sargeant Lewis Reynolds of Bedford County, Virginia (Pension R8713 f45VA) with his initials LR carved in the butt plug. Sargeant Reynolds served in the 5th Regiment of the Virginia line under the command of Colonel Lawrence, Major Belew, and Captain Cobbs at the battle of Norfolk (Great Bridge) and then in General Washington’s northern campaign at White Marsh, Trenton, Princeton, Mud Island, Stone Point and he wintered at Valley Forge. He then joined Generals Wayne and Greene in the southern campaign at Guilford Court House, Camden, Eutaw Springs, and Hobkirk Hill. He then marched prisoners to Albemarle Barracks in Virginia and then to the Siege of Yorktown where he was discharged. He has a letter of his discharge highly flattering to him as a soldier and a man that was signed by General Washington, General Wayne, General Greene, General Sullivan, Colonel Lawrence and many other officers of distinction.
