F&I War British Officer’s Sword
This beautiful British officer’s sword (ca 1720) is the type sent to America for American officer use in the F&I War and was later used by American officers in the Revolutionary War. It is a symbol of authority with a brass hilt of fine sculptural quality with characterful lion head pommel and horn grip that is carved. The knuckle bow is eloquently shaped with spiral filing to combine durability with refined craftsmanship. The quillon is filed with what appears to be a sea serpent. The beautifully brass ricasso is relief carved with a spiritual face. The blade has a nice fuller. This sword comes with a wonderful leather scabbard. The sword has a particularly fine patina including highlights which accent its sculptural quality.
