Early Calf Hide Hunting Pouch with Screw Tip Powder Horn

This outstanding hunting pouch descended from the prominent frontiersman and settler, Henry Smith (1802-1883) who settled Smith’s Station Settlement (Pewee Valley north of Louisville, KY).

This classic shoulder-slung pouch with shoulder strap was crafted from thick vegetable-tanned calf leather. This historic hunting pouch feature one compartment, a shoulder strap, a powder measure, a hand-forged bullet mold, tin with old round balls, and a piece of old cloth often used for ball patches. Attaches is a beautiful hand-made screw tip powder horn made from a cow horn. This powder horn has brass tack decoration associated with the frontier.

The hunting pouch was an essential accoutrements used by frontiersmen to carry ammunition, patches, and powder for their longrifle, tools, and survival supplies while venturing to the frontier and participating in our American wars.
