American Revolutionary War Sword – Circa 1775
An American Revolutionary War Sword with a forged iron hilt and blade. This well-balanced sword was designed for use by the mounted cavalry. The forged iron hilt has a spiral pattern carved walnut grip that is fitted to a forged blade with a fuller running more than ½ the length of the curved blade. 36” overall 31” blade with 5” hilt
This is a published American made Horseman Cavalry Revolutionary War Sword with original leather scabbard. It is published in “Silver Sword, Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords” by Daniel Hartzler. Hartzler includes this sword in the Washington DC group of swords. Hartzler list Robert Hodgson of Georgetown, Virginia, as a sword maker during the Revolutionary War. This sword is one of the rarest Revolutionary War swords in existence and is one of only three known examples.
